221.1 Four Ways of Ordering Information

Presenting complex scientific information requires a clear structure. Here are some typical ways to structure information in a presentation:

  • Chronological
  • Logical
  • Spatial
  • Importance

Bonnie provides six mini-stories that progress through her research in a logical sequence. She begins by captivating her audience with an intriguing general example. This may or may not have been the first thing she discovered, but it is the first thing she presents. In this sense she uses this example as a plot device, to draw in her audience. Each mini-story then builds on the conclusions from the previous mini-story, advancing the overall story piece-by-piece.
