212  Enunciation

Make sure your audience understands each individual word

Even if you have a microphone, just because people can hear you doesn’t mean they can understand you. A microphone may actually be a hindrance to enunciation, since it’s difficult to mumble while speaking loudly.

212.1 Enunciate

Take a moment to warm up your voice before you have to speak.

  • Stretch your jaw, yawn, and stick out your tongue.

Voice the following words clearly and loudly:

  • E-nun-ci-ate
  • Ar-tic-u-late
  • Ex-agg-er-ate

212.2 Tongue

Develop a feeling for your tongue by holding it against the upper ridge of your mouth and saying the days of the week, end by releasing your tongue and saying the days of the weekend.

212.3 Lips

Develop a feeling for your lips by keeping them closed and saying the word onion three times. On the fourth time, release your lips and say the word clearly, exaggerating your lips.
